Andhra Pradesh MBBS and BDS counselling is conducted by Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada (also referenced as Dr. NTR UHS in older documents). The counselling allocates 85% State Quota seats in Government Medical Colleges (excluding AIIMS Mangalagiri which is AIQ-only via MCC) plus state-quota seats in Private colleges via the B1/B2 system. AP cutoffs use a complex multi-dimensional encoding: Convenor Quota (CQ) splits into 4 regional streams (APUR/APL/AU/SVU), and Management Quota (MQ) splits into B1/B2/C/CA-NRI/CA-SF.

About the rounds
Dr. YSR UHS runs an online counselling cycle over 4-5 rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, Stray Round, and Special Stray Round if needed. BC system: Andhra Pradesh has the most complex reservation system in India: 5-tier BC sub-categories (BC-A through BC-E totaling 29%) plus 3-tier SC sub-classification (SC1/SC2/SC3 within the 15% SC share). BC-E (4% for Muslim classes) is subject to ongoing Supreme Court review. 5% horizontal reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) applies across all categories. Domicile rules
To claim Andhra Pradesh state quota seats, candidates must satisfy AP domicile clauses: born in AP with school education in AP, parent is an AP state government employee, parent is a permanent resident of AP, or candidate studied in AP for the qualifying years. AP domicile certificate from MRO is required at verification. Local Candidate status for APL or AU/SVU regional quotas requires stricter local area criteria.

Important notes
- AP cutoffs use a sophisticated 4-dimensional quota encoding: prefix (CQ/MQ), region (APUR/APL/AU/SVU), category (OC/BC-A through BC-E/SC1/SC2/SC3/ST/EWS/MINORITY), and optional special tag (PH/NCC/SG/BSG/PMC/CAP).
- Cutoffs are published with opening AND closing AIR per round (more granular than most states which publish only closing).
- AIIMS Mangalagiri admits exclusively through MCC AIQ counselling. AIIMS Mangalagiri seats do NOT participate in Dr. YSR UHS state counselling.
- Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women, Tirupati is the only women-only medical college in Andhra Pradesh. It operates autonomously under SVIMS Tirupati with its own 15% NRI quota at USD 20,000 per year.
- AP has India most complex BC reservation with 5 sub-categories (BC-A through BC-E) plus a unique 3-tier SC sub-classification (SC1/SC2/SC3) within the 15% SC share.
- AP has 4 regional quotas: APUR (statewide), APL (Local), AU (Andhra University zone), SVU (SV University zone). Each appears separately in cutoff data with its own merit list.
- GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences, Visakhapatnam is the only Deemed medical college in AP. Admits exclusively through MCC AIQ Deemed counselling.
- Andhra Pradesh underwent a major govt college expansion in 2023, adding 5 new colleges (Dr YSR Eluru, Sri Pingali Venkaiah Machilipatnam, Nandyal, Rajamahendravaram, Vizianagaram).
- The university was renamed twice in recent years: Dr. NTR UHS to Dr. YSR UHS (2022) and reverted/renamed multiple times. Current name: Dr. YSR University of Health Sciences.
