Assam NEET UG counselling is conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Assam through dme.assam.gov.in. The counselling allocates 85% State Quota seats in 14 State Government Medical Colleges plus ESIC Beltola Guwahati. AIIMS Guwahati admits 100% via MCC AIQ counselling (statutory autonomous). OBC is further sub-divided into community-specific sub-castes (Chutia/Koch-Rajbongshi/Moran/Motak/Tai-Ahom/TGL Tea Garden Labour with TGL-Barak and TGL-Brahmaputra Valley variants). 2-tier ST reservation distinguishes Hill (Karbi/Garo/Dimasa) from Plain (Bodo/Mising/Deori) tribes with different cutoffs. Char Area reservation is unique to Assam for marginalized communities living on river islands and riverbanks along the Brahmaputra and tributaries. Domicile rules

To claim Assam state quota seats, candidates must satisfy Assam domicile clauses: (a) born in Assam with continuous residence + education, (b) parent is an Assam state government employee, (c) parent has been a permanent resident of Assam for 7+ years, (d) candidate studied in Assam for the qualifying years. Assam PRC (Permanent Resident Certificate) from competent revenue authority is required at verification. Sub-quota claims (OBC sub-castes, ST Hill vs Plain, Char Area, TGL) require additional community-specific certification from designated authority.

  • Assam Medical College Dibrugarh (1947, 250 seats) is the OLDEST medical college in Northeast India.
  • AIIMS Guwahati (2020, 100 seats) is the FIRST AIIMS in Northeast India. Admits ONLY via MCC AIQ counselling.
