- Assam has NO Private Medical College and NO Deemed Medical College. All 16 MBBS colleges are Government (14 state + 1 ESIC + 1 AIIMS).
- Assam Medical College Dibrugarh (1947, 250 seats) is the OLDEST medical college in Northeast India.
- AIIMS Guwahati (2020, 100 seats) is the FIRST AIIMS in Northeast India. Admits ONLY via MCC AIQ counselling.
- ESIC Medical College Beltola Guwahati (2025, 50 seats) is the FIRST ESIC medical college in Northeast India.
- Assam has the MOST GRANULAR cutoff encoding in India with 38 distinct quota codes including 6 Assamese OBC sub-castes (Chutia, Koch Rajbongshi, Moran, Motak, Tai Ahom, Tea Garden Labour).
- 2-tier ST reservation: ST(H) Hill tribes (Karbi/Garo/Dimasa) and ST(P) Plain tribes (Bodo/Mising/Deori) have DIFFERENT cutoffs.
- CHAR AREA reservation is UNIQUE to Assam: horizontal quota for marginalized communities living on river islands and riverbanks along the Brahmaputra basin.
