Himachal Pradesh runs 7 government medical colleges: 1 AIIMS Bilaspur (Central, AIQ-only via MCC, 6th AIIMS in India established 2019) and 6 state government colleges under AMRUHP counselling. IGMC Shimla (1966) is the OLDEST medical college in HP, established when HP became a full state. Dr. RPGMC Tanda (1996) is the second oldest. 2016-2018 expansion added 4 new GMCs (Dr YS Parmar Nahan 2016, SLBS Mandi 2017, JLN Chamba 2017, Dr Radhakrishnan Hamirpur 2018). SLBS Mandi has an ESIC tie-up arrangement. Total government MBBS seats: 820.

The flagship Himachal Pradesh government medical colleges are AIIMS Bilaspur (2019, 100 seats, AIQ-only), IGMC Shimla (1966, 120 seats, OLDEST and flagship), and Dr. RPGMC Tanda (1996, 120 seats, second oldest).
