Chhattisgarh runs 11 government medical colleges: 1 AIIMS Raipur (Central, AIQ-only via MCC, 6th AIIMS in India established 2012) and 10 state government colleges under Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial Health Sciences University. The heritage Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Medical College Raipur (Pt JNM MC, 1963) is the OLDEST in Chhattisgarh, established when the region was still part of Madhya Pradesh (state formed in 2000). A 2013-2022 expansion added 6 new state colleges. Total government MBBS seats: 1,555.
The flagship Chhattisgarh government medical colleges are AIIMS Raipur (2012, 125 seats, AIQ-only), Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial MC (Pt JNM MC, 1963, 230 seats, OLDEST), Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences Bilaspur (CIMS, 2001, 150 seats), Late Baliram Kashyap Smriti Shaheed MC Jagdalpur (LBKSSMC, 2006, 125 seats), Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial GMC Durg (CCM GMC, 2013, 200 seats), and Bharatratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Memorial GMC Rajnandgaon (ABV GMC, 2014, 125 seats).
