Tamil Nadu NEET UG counselling.

Tamil Nadu MBBS and BDS counselling is conducted by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu, through the Selection Committee at Kilpauk, Chennai. The process covers 85% of seats in all Government Medical and Dental Colleges, plus 100% of seats in Self Financing Private Minority and Non-Minority Medical and Dental Colleges in Tamil Nadu. The remaining 15% in Government colleges are filled through MCC All India Quota counselling. Candidates apply online at tnhealth.tn.gov.in or tnmedicalselection.net.

About the rounds

Tamil Nadu runs an offline counselling cycle in two main phases plus a mop-up phase if time permits. Special Category candidates and wards of I.R.T. employees attend in their dedicated round. All allotments follow strict NEET UG rank order with the Tamil Nadu rule of reservation applied. Candidates who skip a phase without justification are deemed to have opted out and cannot rejoin in subsequent phases.

When seats are available in Category A, opting out and selecting Category B or C means the candidate cannot reclaim Category A in subsequent phases. The same opt-out lock applies between Category D and E.

Nativity rules

Candidates Native of Tamil Nadu who studied Class VI to Class XII entirely in Tamil Nadu schools need not submit a separate Nativity Certificate. Those who studied outside Tamil Nadu in part or whole must produce parent's certificates (Birth Certificate, Ration Card, SSLC/10th/12th/Degree/Diploma/Professional course), or if parents are not literate, a No Graduation Certificate, alongside other documents to establish Tamil Nadu nativity. OCI candidates are eligible but treated as Open Category with no access to reservation benefits.

Processing fee: ₹500 non-refundable, paid by Demand Draft in favour of "The Secretary, Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai-10" payable at Chennai.

Important notes

  • Counselling is conducted offline in person at the Selection Committee, Kilpauk, Chennai.
  • Candidates who fail to appear in person for any phase of counselling are deemed to have opted out and cannot participate in subsequent phases for that academic year.
  • CMC Vellore admits under its own Christian Minority Reservation policy, which the DME respects within the broader state counselling framework.
  • Rajah Muthiah Medical College (Annamalai University) and I.R.T. Perundurai Medical College fall under DME counselling as Categories B1 and B2 respectively, with their own seat-allotment mechanics.
  • ESIC Medical College K.K. Nagar Chennai (Category B3) reserves a portion of seats for Insured Persons Quota (IPQ).
  • Submitting original documents along with the online application is not advised. The Selection Committee is not responsible for original documents enclosed at application time.
